<3**Teddy Bear Hamster with wet tail? Will she….?**<3?
** my 1st hamster (short haired)died of wet tail, but i didnt catch it in time, her intestines were coming out her rear… and then died. i loved her. my 1st teddy bite too much so i returned him and got cinder who is at petco getting treated. i didnt want to get a 4th hamster. it would be just too hard. I bought her on saturday. noticed it tuesday…. and took her to petco for treatment. today is thursday almost fri. i know that is only 3 days. but, at this point and the point where i caught her with wet tail… will she survive?? is it true that their lifes are cut shorter even tho cured? does petco charge for cure of wet tail with/without being under the 15 day guarantee??? i was told it could be a week to 2 weeks til shes better. that is a long time without her. what should i do to not worry during that long time period?? help me feel better. i love cinder shes dark grey with white rings around her eyes and mouth. shes adorable. dont want her to die.
Answer:
They can survive it but it’s very rare. Are they giving you back your hamster once she’s treated? Hopefully they brought her to the vet. Next time you get a new hamster starting from day one treat him/her with a product called “Dri-Tail” it’s used to cure wet tail and to prevent it. I had a few hamsters that died of wet tail because they were too stressed from being moved from cage to cage (breeder to truck to pet store to home). It will also prevent it. My hamster that I have now I treated and she didn’t have any problems. You also need to not play with the hamster for the first 3 days after getting him/her, like I said they are already stressed (wet tail is cause from stress). Try to keep them in a quiet room so they can get used to their new cage and environment. I don’t think their lives are cut shorter but I’m not positive. You can call the petco and ask for an update from them on your hamster.
